A surcharge is an additional fee a merchant adds to a transaction when a consumer uses a credit card. The merchant charges this fee to offset the cost of processing the credit card payment.
Important: Surcharging is available only for US issued credit cards when processing a sale or an authorization transaction. A cashback amount is not eligible for surcharge as part of the total amount.
The surcharge setting must be applied to the merchant account. These settings enable a merchant to send a surcharge percent of 3% or less on CP and CNP transactions.
You can add a value of up to 4 decimal places for this setting.
Surcharging amount is calculated as follows: SurchargeAmount = (TransactionAmount + Tax Amount + Tip Amount) X (SurchargePercentage X 0.01)
Warning: If the merchant account is enabled for surcharging, we recommend not to reduce a tip amount as there is a potential that you could exceed your allowed surcharge percentage.
