Merchant Onboarding is a streamlined process that allows partners to submit merchant boarding applications through our REST API, eliminating the need for manual methods such as emails, sales forms and portals.
Partners are able to
This helps reduce the time-to-activation for merchants and enhance the partner experience through an API-first approach.
Below are just some of the real-world examples that can be enabled through our REST API.
At a high level, the onboarding process works as detailed below.

The guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough for Partners/Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to onboard their merchants for payment processing through our Onboarding API and Hosted Enrollment Experience.
In order for a Merchant and their location(s) to be boarded with Global Payments, we require some key information for underwriting and risk checks etc. Our Hosted Enrollment Experience can look after a lot of the heavy lifting, empowering the Merchant to fill out a lot of the data themselves. At a high-level this data includes:
| Data group | Examples |
|---|---|
| Company Level Information | 1) Legal Name 2) Legal Address 3) Company History |
| Ownership Details | 1) Owners Identities 2) Percentage Ownership 3) Owners Addresses |
| Merchant Locations | 1) Address Information 2) Payment Processing Statistics 3) Bank Accounts Details 4) Software and Hardware to be used 5) Pricing |
In order to kick off the onboarding experience, Partners can submit a minimum of 8 data points; basic Company Level Information, Location Information, Pricing and the Partner Software the Merchant will be using. The Merchant can then fill out the rest of the information themselves in the Hosted Experience such as Bank Account Details, Ownership information and so on.
We recognise that Partners will collect a lot of this information as part of their own customer/merchant sign up and onboarding process. With this in mind we highly recommend passing as much data as is feasible to kick off onboarding, reducing the amount of data the Merchant must enter Hosted Experience. For the full list of data it’s possible to pass in the request, refer to the Full Data Capture & Submission Flow.
In the examples below we’ve outlined the minimum required fields but also the recommended fields; data points that we assume the majority of Partners will collect about their customers and should pass to Global Payments as part of the onboarding request.
The demo of hosting onboarding is shared for your reference. If you want to check out further details, please check out the Demo Portal
